The Arosa Classic Car hill climb takes place every year in Switzerland between Langwies and Arosa and sees cars from Group C and IMSA, along with ones built between 1905 and 1985 racing for the top spot. The 2014 race was the setting for one awful crash of a 1973 Porsche 911 RSR IROC.
The winding 7.8 km course from Langwies to Arosa has 76 turns and an altitude change of 422 meters. Just like any hill climb race, it’s a difficult and tricky test of driver skill that can sometimes result in some bad accidents.
The 2014 event saw a 1973 Porsche 911 RSR IROC driven by Reto Toscan lose control and run right into a metal barrier, launching it into the air. Thankfully, the driver was not injured in the crash but five spectators received minor injuries.

Sad part is? I could sell my house, my future first two children, my future wife, and all of my future cars and yet this car in its current state would still be worth more.

Driver with more money, since a very nice car involved, than SKILL !!!
As his was a CLASSIC MISTAKE from someone NOT familiar with an early 911’s dynamics = since going into that corner he first emerges from (before the one he crashed in), somewhat FASTER for him than he thinks, (for as seasoned early 911 pilot could haven gone considerably faster, without consequences), the tail of the car starts to slide, but just a bit. It’s this very fine moment that separates “men from just boys” -
A well trained ‘man’ would know, just to feed more power, for the car’s end to settle and get more traction in the rear via the weight transfer as the result of that acceleration.
A poorly trained ‘boy’, sensing a negligible slide, get’s scared a little and ___ LIFTS ___ (!?!)
The result, initially, instead of planting the tail to the ground with that additional acceleration, the weight transfer goes to the front instead, unweighting the already sliding rear end even more, causing the driver to feel even bigger slide... To try to compensate, for the slide, the driver tries to counter steer. But, since he does NOT have proper skill HOW MUCH of a counter steer he needs, he OVERCOMPENSATES. First in one direction, and when the car starts to slide the other direction (again instead of ACCELERATING for the correct transfer to finally happen, which would have planet the rear down for him to be able to drive safely out of the jam he put himself into), the driver OVERCOMPENSATES AGAIN, and gets the car into the guard rail...
A silly ‘boy’ of a driver should have learned the early 911’s behaviour on a flugplatz (air field) and NOT trying to show off with skills he DID NOT HAVE in such tight surroundings.

Wrong year - not a 1973 - ‘73 was the last year of the, so called “LONG HOOD” such as this green Carrera RS posseses.
IROC cars were 1974 Carreras, but G-Model, with large 5-mph bumpers.
